Sitting here very contrite and very humble… I am in so much disbelief right now. Canada today hasn’t been a friendly place. I just got a ticket ohhhhhh ????????
To be honest, I didn’t start writing this journal to write about experiences like this.
This is so sad
This is so, so sad
This is so, very sad
The logical side of me understands why I got the ticket but I am still unhappy about it. Let me explain what happened.
I had to travel by bus and by train from the venue of a job interview I attended today, back to the home of my hosts on the other side of town- in Stouffville. My bus arrived the train station with very little time to spare for the departure time of the train to Stouffville. Unfortunately for me, the closest route from the bus terminal to the train platform is now blocked off due to ongoing construction. I then had to make a dash for it across from the bus to the train station, following the longer route, down the stairs and then up another flight of stairs to the departure platform.
Only for me to get to the departure platform to discover that I was on the wrong platform and the train was on the far side of the station.
Adrenalin had already kicked in from all the running and I gave it free rein to cross the train track to get on my train. I didn’t even have enough time to think about the consequences of what I was doing.
Of course I got caught ????
Next thing I know, a security guard is walking up to me and asking me to step out of the train. Everyone was looking at me like I stole. Chai! My father in heaven oh.
Long story short, to my utter disbelief, the security guard wrote me a ticket for 180 Canadian dollars. All my explanation of being late, being new to Canada, not knowing I was violating a bye-law fell on deaf ears.
Now I have to call the courthouse tomorrow, to beg for a lesser fine.
Honestly, I’m just tired???????. I just hope I am hired for the job that brought me downtown today.

Chai! Sorry o!
You’re now my new favorite blogger, as I have just started taking the initial steps towards express entry application.
Babs
hahaha. Thank you oh. I’m still trying to sort out the fine.
Happy to continue to share my experiences here. Go for it. The benefits of moving here are almost endless.

As funny as this experience sounds, the financial implications are unfortunately anything but funny. I could see your inner “Naija survival instincts” kicked in, in a bid to catch the train. Sadly, no one cares about such instincts where orderliness reigns supreme.
However, I do sincerely hope the court extends a hand of leniency to you by reducing the fine. All the best!
In fact ehn. In my mind, when the security guard called me out of the train, I was initially like, for what? what did I do? Is it small train tracks that I crossed ni ……hahhhahahahahaha. My friend was laughing at me when i told her the story. She’s like, ‘you tink say yankee na yaba market wey you go dey cross train track as you like?’ Sigh… this friday, I’ll know how much fine I’ll eventually pay. Please say a prayer for me 🙁
wawu!
As hilarious as this was, i pity your coins.
Hoping you get a reduced fine o. Doh!
Thank you so much. I was at the court of Justice today, to ask for an earky resolution of my case. Fingers crossed for the best ?
Lmaooooo. I know , i know I shouldn’t be laughing ?. You thought you were in “Yaba” for a minute shey? Loool. Hopefully you don’t/didn’t pay much as im just joining the blog. Pele ehn
Ha!! My sister, see what Yaba railway line has caused?? It was a clear mogbe moment when I was caught. Hmmmm, I went down to the Ontario court of Justice for provincial offences (such a long name) and applied for an early resolution. Fingers crossed for a lesser fine ?
Ehyaaa, I’m really hoping they would understand the fact that you’re new to Canada. But damn this is hilarious ???. I do hope you don’t have to pay that much, haba, isn’t that more than your train ticket seff
Looool… My sister. The thing do me like film trick
Oh dear.
Loool. Wasn’t funny then
Lmao ? Kpele.
I hope to be like you soon.
You want to get arrested as well??
